Sri Lanka’s history of 2500 years has infused a rich culture across race, religion and traditions in the island. Buddhism & Hinduism dates back to ancient times whilst Islam and Christianity was introduced later by Arab traders and Colonial invaders. The Cultural Triangle has 5 of the country’s 7 UNESCO World Heritage sites and its ancient monuments are steeped in myth and legend. It is a culture that in its diversity is a rich tapestry combining the many influences of East and West. As a country exposed to western colonial rule, it has surprisingly retained a great deal of its indigenous traditions, while at the same time absorbing the considerable impact of the West. |
